B.A. Tamil is a three-year undergraduate program, it caters to the needs of young minds who aspire to enhance their competence and knowledge levels in the Tamil language and literature. Furthermore, courses on linguistics and translation have been incorporated to suit the local needs of our bilingual society. The language courses enhance students’ understanding of linguistic concepts and language discourse from a functional grammar perspective. The literature courses offer insight into a range of literary genres, periods, and styles. The program is taught by qualified faculty members

  • Pass in 10+2 (or) Equivalent

Department of Tamil is established in the Year 2020. The department deals with Tamil language and advanced study in allied branches such as linguistics, translation, lexicography, music, drama and manuscriptology. Tamil is one of the longest-surviving classical languages in the world. A.k Ramanujan described it as the only language of contemporary India which is recognizably continuous with a classical past. The variety and quality of classical Tamil literature has led to it being described as one of the great classical traditions. Envisions the Department to be a vibrant centre of Tamil Studies where research in diverse fields of Tamil language will be carried out.

Placement Opportunities

  • Different career options are available for the graduates in Tamil, for instance one can become a teacher, translator, interpreter, lyricist, script writer and orator as well.
  • Opportunity to work in research firms, translation bureaus, publishing houses, international organizations, hotel industry, travel and tourism sector etc.
  • 20% quota allotted in Tamil Nadu Govt. jobs conducted by TNPSC for the students who have completed the degree program in Tamil or through Tamil medium of any degree.
  • The students who have completed a degree in Tamil have advantages to secured good marks in TNPSC examination, hence the 100 marks questions are set related to Tamil literature.
